A: Ouch, I don't know if you've seen this site before but I thought I would post it here. It may be worth taking a look. All I can add is that I hope the issue of warranty came up somewhere in this replacement. This is the first I've heard of these cam phasers personallly. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/583285-5-4-cam-phaser.html Sorry about the let down...

Q: about 2004 f150 complete lowering kits?
ok i have a 2004 ford f150 supercrew lariat 2wd with 5.4 the new body style and i wanted to get a 3" drop in front and 5'' drop in the back where can i get one...is it true when the complete lowering kit is installed the truck rides smooth like if it was stock height not lowered trying to get a kit of $500 and up or a good lowering kit

A: Well, it depends what brand of lowering kit you use. If you buy cheap, thats exactley what you get CHEAP. It will ride like crap, but if you pay a little more for quality parts, then it will probably ride better than stock.

A: Here dude, check out the link. They even have reviews on there, so you can hear from people that actually have that kit on their truck.

Q: Why does my 2004 F150 take off in 2nd gear only when the transmission is put in L2?
vehicle-- 2004 Ford F150 4x4 Lariat ext cab(new body) 5.4L auto 49k miles Ive never noticed it before but i put my truck in L2 by accident and the truck actually takes off in 2nd gear.Whats up with that? Is it suppose to do that? The vehicle drives and shifts fine otherwise when in Drive and when its put into L1 it takes off in first gear but only when i try to take off in L2 is when it takes off in 2nd gear. Ive never had a truck do this before but then again im usually driving around older turd trucks.Whats going on with my Fords transmission anyway?

A: If you are stuck in the mud or on a slippery surface you should put your transmission in L2. By starting out in 2nd gear your wheels are less likely to spin and you actually have more traction than in 1st gear. Try it sometime and you will see that it is true. There is nothing wrong with your transmission.

Q: Ticking / knocking noise on 2004 Ford F150 5.4L?
I just got a 2004 Ford F150 4x4 Lariat 5.4L Triton. I think I got a good deal on my truck. The exterior and interior are in great condition; however, it has 140,000 miles and it shows a continuous ticking or knocking noise. According to a mechanic that I know the problem might be one of the lifters (diagnose made by just listening to the vehicle). I’ve read some posts stating that the noise is caused most of the time by the cam phasers, so at this point I’m very confused. I’m very happy with my truck, but I really want to know if I have to worry about this noise. What might happen to the engine if I don’t fix it? What can I do? PS. The mechanic’s diagnostic computer showed no problems at all. Thanks!

A: I would add some Lucas oil stabelizer, or STP to the engine. if it is the lifters rattleing it should make them stop or make them quieter. I would have to agree with the mechanic who listened to the engine making the noise. Experienced people know the differences in the sounds associated with a running engine. Rattles, pings, knocks, and thuds are all different sounds to the trained ear.

Q: How do i get better ride quality out of the rear of my 04' F150 4x4 without replacing the rear springs?
vehicle--2004 F150 4x4 ext cab Lariat(new body) The vehicle rides like a log wagon in the rear.It only rides well when there is a load in the back.Everytime i hit a bump it bounces all over. How do i get better ride quality from my truck without replacing the rear leaf srpings or keeping weight in it all the time? Would a different set of shocks help or not?

A: Put new shocks on it front and back. It will still be firm ride but will take the bounce out of it. The ride (firmness) will soften up some as the new shocks get some miles on them. The original shocks are made to ride good when the truck was new not to last forever so if its got around 40,000 mi or more replace them. Buy a quality oem replacement or better shock and that will help. Dont buy the cheapest thing you see.. Replacing the springs is unecessary and costly and trucks dont ride like cars. Hope this helps ..

Q: engine problem with 2004 f150 5.4 3v engine?
ok i have a 2004 lariat super crew with the 5.4 3v engine and i went to auto zone because my check engine light was on and they told me to change the spark plugs because they said cylinder 1 and 5 were not working correctly then i changed them but then it went away and 2 days later the check engine light came back on when i was driving back from school so i took it to auto zone again because the check engine light came up again and they said it was cylinder 1 and 5 again and on the way home it didn't have any power at 3 gear so i had to go down to second gear..what could it be please help......these is the kind os spark plugs that my truck has http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=ATL&MfrPartNumber=HT1&PartType=960&PTSet=A its one weird spark plug had never seen them but when the mechanic was changing them he broke two the bottom end and took the broken pieces out

A: Is the possibility that the ignition coil pack may be going bad as well. Causing the problem, or clogged or stuck injectors.

Q: Why would the back of my truck sit crooked?
vehicle 2004 F150 Lariat (new body style)4x4 60k miles. When standing behind my truck, the bed looks crooked.Another person even said the same thing to me the other day(it doesnt matter where i park).I put new rear KYB shocks on it a year ago.So why would my truck sit crooked to one side?It doesnt really ride bad but i am wondering why it does this? My avatar is Chevy not a Ford.My pic is not the truck im referring too.

A: maybe part of the lift kit rusted out?

FYI--My avatar is a Chevy and its not the vehicle im referring to

A: Are you meaning your bed sits lower on one side or is twisted. If it sits lower could be a bad mount or broke leaf hanger, If it is the riding side ways look, then your truck has had its frame bent. Get someone to drive it and ride behind them, if it looks like it riding sidways then its your frame.

Q: 2004 F150 car wash problem?
I have a 2004 F-150 lariat super crew and recently I have had a problem in car washes, more specifically when i first go in and the underbody spray hits it, by the time its gets to the back of the truck it dies. Wont start till something dries out. I took it to ford they thought it was a bad seal on the cam sensor so they fixed that but it didnt fix anything. I took it back to ford and they had it for 2 days said they dont know what it is and told me to come pick my truck up?? I am at my wits end, anytime there is a lot of rain and water to drive through it has the potential of dying or not starting when I shut it off, and the dealership said they don't know what it is?? I even took the dealership guy to the car wash and the truck died as usual so they could inspect it when it failed but still nothing and I cant accept that the dealership tells me to come get my truck they cant fix it?? any help would be GREATLY appreciated. sadly it is not under warranty. The next closest dealership is 35 miles away. Just hoping someone has had a similar situation and knows what to look for. my local dealer claims they climbed under the truck with a spray wand and could not duplicate the problem in their shop so I dont know if its just the water or the force of the water from the car wash. Its a new car wash and it really has a powerful underbody spray. I dont see how it could matter that much though since it starts after it sits for awhile so if it was the force it wouldnt correct itself, to me the only reasonable answer is its drying out thats why it starts up later.

A: Sounds like water is getting in the fuel pump harness and shorting it out....does the pump run when this occurs?...maybe run a sprinkler underneath the truck...set to one position, not to sweep pattern.... in various areas from front to back to see which area makes the truck die. Try another shop maybe too.

A: Honestley I don't know a thing about air ride, or lowering a truck. I really don't see the point. But I do know that stylintrucks.com has air ride suspensions, you may want to check there.

ok i wanted to install 2 JL AUDIO 12W1v2-8 12" W1 v2 SUBWOOFERS in a 2004 f150 super crew lariat the sub box is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-F150-TRUCK-SUBWOOFER-10-12-SPEAKER-SUB-BOX-2004_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3ca20f3472QQitemZ260416943218QQptZCarQ5fSubwoofersQ5fEnclosures an the Amp have is a jl audio 500/1 i have everything except for the subs i want some subs that will pound hard with this amp and sub box if those subs will not give me alot of bass can you guys tell me which subs to get that the bass will hit really hard thanks

A: Go to a retail store and demo the subwoofers with your own source of music. If you have the box that would even be better for the demo. Your own ears are the final judge which one sounds good to you. Just stay with the name brand product like JL, JBL, Alpine, Infinity etc. Good luck.

Q: Air conditioning pump not kicking in when on a/c or defrost?Where to start my troubleshooting?

Thank you eveyone for all the helpful info.Your answer are great.Sounds like i need to take this to a pro instead of doing it myself.I will let this go for a vote.Thanks.

A: Check the connection and the fuse, or you could try adding some freon to the system but IF your not sure where to add it I would take it in for a recharge.

Q: where can i check if my fordf150 2004 5.4 3v has warranty?
ok i just bought my truck in February and since i bought it has always been having like a knocking noise so i took it to a mechanic today and he told me it was because they would use it and it didn't have the correct amount of oil so the mechanic told me to take it to the ford dealer to see if my truck had warranty. my truck is a ford f150 2004 5.4 3v lariat super-crew new body-style is there any website that i can enter the vin number to see the warranty or the records by the way the truck only has 54,000 miles

A: Look in the owners manual for an 800 number. Give them a call and give them the VIN number and let them check it out for you. To be honest, I would doubt that it is still under warranty. The previous owner/owners did not maintain the truck properly, so that in itself would void the warranty. The warranty on that truck is 3yrs/36000mi and you are past that point anyway. You may have to get a lower engine rebuild with new pistons, rods, bearings. Have a dealer take a look and let you know for sure. good luck with it
